Excerpts from the article that discusses Lent, which begins the great celebration of our redemption.
"The forty days of Lent and the Paschal Triduum. Did you ever notice how from the beginning to the end of the drama of our salvation, relationships are key? In fact, they seem to have come into even sharper focus as Jesus approached the final days before the great offering of his life.
Martha and Mary welcome Jesus into their home. What intimacy in the conversations and actions that took place in the Last Supper, from Jesus kneeling before his apostles to humbly wash their feet, to the giving of himself: This is my Body. This is my Blood given for you. Jesus is not arrested by a nameless mob, but by soldiers led to him by one of his chosen Twelve. Peter's betrayal and, later in the beautiful days after the resurrection, his three-fold promise of love, is a moving dance of the human spirit with divine mercy. And who can forget Mary and John standing at the foot of the cross.
There was a lot going on at Christmas. The nativity story is filled with angels and shepherds and kings. We ourselves are involved with parties and gift giving, cards and carols, choir rehearsals and Christmas meals. Lent, on the other hand, is very personal, because LOVE is personal".
