"St. Joseph is a saint for all times, but truly and especially a saint for our times. In an age where the crisis in families, absentee fathers, proliferation of pornography, and any other number of distortions pertaining to masculinity seem to wound every family and community, surely Saint Joseph is a patron for us in many ways. Let us turn to him with our aches and intentions as a special intercessor:
Dear Saint Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for our fathers.
Saint Joseph, spouse of the Virgin Mary, pray for our husbands.
Saint Joseph, protector and provider of the Holy Family, pray for men.
Saint Joseph, patron of the Universal Church, pray for our priests, and for all of us. Amen."

.St. Isaac of Syria: "The cross is the door to mysteries. Through this door the intellect makes entrance in to the knowledge of heavenly mysteries. The knowledge of the cross is concealed in the sufferings of the cross. And the more our participation in its sufferings, the greater the perception we gain through the cross. For, as the Apostle says, `As the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ."
MC=For just one day let us attempt to carry one of our crosses with dignity and in peace with thanksgiving, all for the love of Christ Jesus.

The Rule of St. Benedict
"If anyone make a mistake in the recitation of psalm, responsory, antiphon, or lesson, and do not make humble satisfaction there before all, let him undergo greater punishment, because he would not repair by humility the fault that he committed through carelessness. But boys for such faults shall be whipped"
MC=As Maya Angelou said: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” To do the opposite will cause one to get more stripes rather than less. It's to grow and move forward, it may be slow, but it must be sure.

🔘"Faithfully living from moment to moment in grace is the power in us leading us to our destiny, which is God himself". By Servant of God, Fr. Walter Ciszek, S.J.
⭕️"Now and again I will lower my eyes to my heart and remain in recollection for a few seconds, thinking 'You are here, my God, and I love You.' Thus I will develop the habit, and I will end by always feeling the sweet Companionship of the God of my heart." By A Religious, Pelligrini
🌘"There are many people in the world who cultivate a curious state which they call “the spiritual life.” They often complain that they have very little time to devote to the “spiritual life.” The only time that they do not regard as wasted is the time they can devote to pious exercises: praying, reading, meditations, and visiting the church. All the time spent in earning a living, cleaning the home, caring for the children, making and mending clothes, cooking, and all the other manifold duties and responsibilities, is regarded as wasted. Yet it is really through ordinary human life and the things of every hour of every day that union with God comes about." By Caryll Houselander.

📃One major lesson, two major lessons, and three major lessons, not yet up to four
📃 But surely for my growth, God have in store many, many, more
🛎The major lesson for this year, coming during Lent, is: Divine Timing (more about this in another Ijournal entry)
🛎The major lesson from Fr. Larry Richards's recent Lenten Mission is:
Pray and Love.
🛎The Major Lesson from Daniel, whose funeral was a couple of days ago, is: See Jesus in everyone.
A couple of days ago attended three out of the four consecutive weekend funerals for either a friend or their relative. Never in my life have there been four weeks in a row where someone died that warranted my attending their funeral. We Christians must be very aware of practicing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. For daily Mass goers, daily adorers, etc. we must live the faith, as best we can 24/7. (Kudos to Curt and Siena, you all represent the name "Christian" very well and inspire me so much. Please keep praying for me). The last funeral was for Daniel. The full poem for him will be a veggie in another Ijournal entry. The inspiration came from Elton John's song "Daniel". It's Lent, so carrying on the old tradition of not listening to music. Can't wait to listen to the instrumental version & have the words of the poem to sing to the song as a tribute to Daniel.

"St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori told a story shared with him by a superior of the Jesuit order about a different superior who appeared to him after his death and gave a detailed report about what sort of treatment different people could expect in heaven. According to the departed superior, the rewards of heaven are not equal for all who enter, but all who enter are equally satisfied:
“Now I am in heaven, Philip II, king of Spain, is in heaven as well. We both are enjoying the eternal rewards of paradise, but they are very different for us. My happiness is much greater than his, for it is not like when we were still on earth, for then he was royalty and I was a commoner. We were as far apart as the earth and sky, but now it has been reversed: As lowly as I was compared to the king on earth, I now exceed him in glory in heaven. However, we are both happy, and our hearts are completely satisfied.”

Putting the lessons into action is a result of graces that is enabling me to see in a concrete way how to begin to love more and how to love well. It's to start to think like Jesus, and that will help change how one will feel. Already taught by the Holy Spirit in the past year or so to work on not acting upon my feelings. Now with step two being put into place, it is possible to see that making progress will be easier and occur in a more peaceful manner. It is imperative that disordered feelings be changed. On the last day of the mission it was mentioned that we should begin to think like Jesus. Yes, yes, the call for me is: ordered thinking, modeled on that of Jesus, the Christ.

The order may be different for someone else, but for me it started with becoming aware to not act upon my feelings. When disordered feelings are corrected by sanctified thoughts, then behavioral changes will be more consistent and deeply rooted in Christ. So thought matters, a throw back to the book by Sr. Meg Funk, it seems time to begin reading again (Thank you Katie for the turn on years ago).
Now for the lagniappe, it's always a treat to receive a lil extra, praise the Lord. This next lesson came because of my attendance at Daniel's funeral. For me Daniel was an icon. Who goes before locked churches around town, kneeling on the sidewalk to pray? Don't say a crazy person, because if that was so, the sidewalks would be extremely crowded and so many prayers would be reaching heaven that a spiritual revolution would be occurring in no time. Haven't seen not one single soul ever kneel on a sidewalk and pray, pray, pray. Rarely can you see people passing a church and making the sign of the cross, much less stoping to pray outside the door. The first hand raised as guilty, so maybe in memory of Daniel and to honor and reverence God inside the tabernacle, it could become a good practice for me to begin.
At the funeral Mass a relative mentioned how Daniel prayed 24/7. Oh yea, and more, he was the real deal. Loved conversing with him, only would see him about two to three times a year, but it was an absolute delight. After Mass we would be talking and talking, before you knew it the street lights would be on, dispelling the dark of night around. Once he told me how he could see Jesus in everyone. He was a doer of the word. This though came to mind at the repast and it was shared with his neice. Meditating on this at Holy Hour after attending the funeral, it became clear how this is the crowing step in the transformation that is being set into motion. How so? Well, if Jesus was with me and did something annoying, would my reactions be negative? Oh, no, no, no, it's Jesus, it's the Lord, no problem!!!

Now, here comes aggravating Jo Blow or strutting Petty Patty, for sure it's quite a different story that will unfold. All of a sudden every feather of every nerve is ruffled. Learning people, trying to learn an important lesson, that at the end of the day it is truly unequivocally about love. Love God and love neighbor, that must reign supreme in hearts. The Lord is showing me that it's not about accepting what is wrong, agreeing with errors or ignorance, etc, but we can't be intolerant people. Love is not intolerant, it's for me not to confuse tolerance with acceptance.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs. Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away" |
That called for pulling out the dictionary. Katie is a good example of the a little lamb doing the right thing. She uses the dictionary to get a better understanding of a word and it's true entomology. So here we go:
📓Tolerate= allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that one does not necessarily like or agree with) without interference. Word Origin and History for tolerance from Latin tolerantia "endurance," "to bear, endure, tolerate".
The key word for me is interference, God doesn't interfere with our freewill, so it is for me to not attempt to do so with others. Seeing the word "endure" was a spiritual grace blessing, it is helping bring to the forefront the sacrificial aspect in regards to being tolerant. Thank God the Holy Spirit brought that sin to my attention. Never in a million years would that have been confessed. And what isn't confessed, how can we obtain forgiveness? May the Holy Spirit shine His light upon us, that we may come to see all ours ways that are displeasing to God. What point is there to be alive if we are fulling the goal of preparing for eternal life? With a funeral every week, that point is crystal clear. Now, on to the next word to be defined, that word is accept:
📓 Accept = believe or come to recognize (an opinion, explanation, etc.) as valid or correct. The Latin root word cept means “taken.” This root word gives rise to many English vocabulary words, including deception, concept, and except. Perhaps the easiest way to remember this root word is through the word accept, for when you have accepted something, you have “taken” it towards yourself.
So the next lesson is coming from the thoughts that were recalled at Daniel's funeral. Things are shaping up to look like this:
a). we are not to act according to how we feel
b). disordered thoughts skew our feelings
c). Right thinking in line with that which is characteristic of Jesus, will result in thoughts that transforms how we feel
d). And lastly to see Jesus in everyone (go Daniel!), as this will dictate our behavior. We can thereby act peacefully and lovingly with more ease than expected, and all because of the grace of God operant in those with open hearts.
If you see things differently, beg to differ, or have something to add, please speak up. Your opinion is valuable.

7 Ways to make time for prayer, by Connie Rossini

"Are you having trouble finding time for prayer every day? Here are some suggestions.
⏱1. Ask yourself whether daily prayer is your top priority. If you don’t see the need for prayer, you won’t be faithful to it. Prayer doesn’t take us away from our duties; it gives us strength to fulfill them. No matter what your vocation or how busy it keeps you, God wants to strengthen you in it through prayer. If you have a hard time seeing the importance of prayer, (re-)read Why should you pray?.
⏱2. Simplify your life. We are all too busy with work, volunteering, and socializing. Cut out some of your unnecessary activities. Reduce the number of events you chauffeur your kids to. In extreme cases, you may have to consider a job change so work doesn’t devour your life. Do whatever you must to slow down and refocus your life on Christ. You won’t be sorry you did. What about material possessions? Do you own so much that you spend all your “free” time caring for your stuff? Give some of your goods to the poor and really free up your time. What can you do without?
⏱3. Turn off the TV and computer. If you have time for your favorite program, you have time for prayer. A 30-minute conversation with Christ will refresh you more than a sitcom. Maybe you only read blogs like this one. St. Frances de Sales cautioned people against thinking they were holy simply because they read a lot of spiritual books. The same could be said of reading Catholic blogs in our day. Is it time to switch off the computer and put your faith into practice?
⏱4. Pray first thing in the morning. Set your alarm back half an hour. Not a morning person? Neither am I, but I still find this the ideal time for prayer. There are few interruptions or distractions before 6 a.m. If you leave prayer until the end of the day, there’s a chance you won’t pray at all, or you will be so caught up in thinking about the day’s events or so sleepy, you’ll do a poor job praying. If you can’t pray first thing, make sure you designate another half hour of each day for prayer. Praying at a consistent time helps you form the habit of prayer.
⏱5. Enlist your family’s support. If both spouses commit to pray, you can encourage and support each other. The husband can watch the children while the wife prays. A mom can teach older children to have a quiet time while the little ones nap, then use this time for prayer.
⏱6. Be creative. Some of the above may not be applicable, or even possible, for you. These are only suggestions. Everyone’s situation is different. Examine your life before you decide that daily prayer won’t work for you. With a little ingenuity, it can usually be done. Sometimes you need to multi-task. Pray while you nurse the baby or push the toddler in the stroller. Use half of your lunch hour to pray in the car. Dan and I have tried all these methods. Your tack may have to change as your life changes. Prayer requires sacrifice, but God rewards even the smallest sacrifices (see Matthew 10:42).
⏱7. Still struggling? Ask God for wisdom and guidance. In a word, pray."

🙁First Sorrow and Joy😊
O most pure Spouse of Mary, glorious St. Joseph, as the affliction and anguish of thy heart was exceedingly great in thy perplexity, whether thou shouldst abandon thy most unspotted Spouse, so was the joy unspeakable when,by an Angel, the sublime Mystery of the Incarnation was revealed to thee. By this sorrow and joy, we beseech thee that now, and in our last agony, thou mayest comfort our souls by the joy of a good life and a holy death, like thine in the society of Jesus and Mary. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
🙁Second Sorrow and Joy😊
O most happy Patriarch, glorious saint Joseph, who wast to fulfill the duty of foster father to the Incarnate Word, thy sorrow in beholding the poverty of the Child Jesus in His birth, was changed immediately into heavenly delight, by hearing the angelic harmony, and by beholding the glory of that most resplendent night. By this thy sorrow and joy, we beseech Thee, that, after the passage of this life, we may in the next hear the angelic praises and enjoy the brightness of eternal glory. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
🙁Third Sorrow and Joy😊
O most excellent observer of the divine law, glorious St. Joseph, the most precious Blood which the Divine Infant, our Redeemer, shed in His circumcision, afflicted thy heart: but the Sacred Name of Jesus revived it and replenished it with gladness. By this thy sorrow and joy, obtain for us, that during our life we may be free from every vice, and may in death joyfully breathe forth our soul with the Most Holy Name of Jesus in our hearts and on our lips. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
🙁Fourth Sorrow and Joy😊
O most faithful Saint, who wast admitted to a participation in the Mystery of our Redemption, glorious St. Joseph, if the prophecy of Simeon, concerning what Jesus and Mary were to suffer, gave thee mortal affliction, thou wast likewise filled with holy joy for the salvation and glorious resurrection of innumerable souls, which he likewise foretold. By this thy sorrow and joy, obtain for us, that we may be among the number of those who, through the merits of Jesus and the intercession of His Virgin Mother, will arise to everlasting glory. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
🙁Fifth Sorrow and Joy😊
O Most vigilant guardian and intimate friend of the Incarnate Son of God, glorious St. Joseph, how much didst thou suffer in providing for
and serving the Son of the Most High, particularly in the flight thou wast obliged to make into Egypt! But how much also didst thou rejoice
in having always with thee the same God, and seeing the Egyptian idols fall prostrate on the ground! By this thy sorrow and joy, obtain for us,
that we may keep at a distance from the infernal tyrant, especially by flying from dangerous occasions, so that the idols of earthly affections may fall from our hearts, and that, being entirely devoted to the service of Jesus and Mary, we may live for them alone, and with them calmly die. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
🙁Sixth Sorrow and Joy😊
O angel on earth, glorious St. Joseph, who didst behold, subject to thine orders the King of heaven: although thy joy in conducting Him back was disturbed by the fear of Archilaus, thou wast, nevertheless, comforted by an Angel, and didst dwell in safety with Jesus and Mary at Nazareth.
By this thy sorrow and joy, obtain for us, that our hearts being released from hurtful fears, we may enjoy peace of conscience, and live in security with Jesus and Mary, and die in their embraces. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
🙁Seventh Sorrow and Joy😊
O model of all sanctity, glorious saint Joseph, having lost the Divine Child without any fault of thine, thou didst seek Him in great sorrow for three days, until at length thou was filled with exceeding gladness
on finding Him in the temple amidst the doctors. By this thy sorrow and joy, we beseech Thee, to intercede for us, that we may never lose Jesus by grievous sin, but that, should we have the misfortune to lose Him,
we may seek for Him with unwearied sorrow until we have happily found Him: and particularly that we may find Him at the hour of our death, in order to enjoy Him in heaven, and there with thee to sing eternally His divine mercies. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
Anthem. - Jesus Himself was beginning His public life about the age of thirty years, being, as it was supposed, the Son of Joseph.
V. Pray for us, O saint Joseph.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us Pray. - O God, Who, by Thy wonderful Providence didst vouchsafe to choose St. Joseph to be the spouse of Thy Most Holy Mother; grant, we beseech Thee, that he whom we generate as our protector on earth, may be our intercessor in heaven: Who livest and reignest, world without end. Amen."

Amen."
